Captain’s House

Sag Harbor, NY

A storied 1843 Greek Revival on 4.5 acres of waterfront in Sag Harbor, complete with a private sandy beach overlooking the harbor. Reimagined as a summer home for a young family, Winter McDermott Design embraced the property's rich history through the philosophy of wabi-sabi, honoring the beauty of age and imperfection while adding a contemporary edge. Original pine floors, fireplaces, and stairs were preserved, while new rooms and updated millwork refresh the space. The result is McDermott's signature minimalism with a warm, organic feel: clean lines and cozy luxury drawn from Scandinavian modernism, with Arabescato Corchian marble, plaster detail, and a mix of vintage and artisan-made pieces that feel both new and timeless.
