ABOUT the Studio

Maureen McDermott designs homes that feel effortless to live in: quiet, layered, and deeply considered.

Her work is rooted in the belief that a home should feel like an extension of how you want to live: calm without being sparse, elevated without being precious, and always in dialogue with its architecture. Each project is approached holistically, where interiors are not applied decoration but an integral part of the home’s structure, flow, and feeling.

After training at the New York School of Interior Design and working with leading firms in New York City and the Hamptons, Maureen refined her eye under design icon Vicente Wolf before founding Winter McDermott Design in 2015.

Her work has been featured in publications including ADLuxe, House Beautiful, Cottages & Gardens, Hamptons, and Rue, among others.

Based in Sag Harbor, Maureen lives with her husband and two children.

In Practice

We believe interiors should feel inevitable — as though they could exist no other way. Architecture is the foundation, guiding proportion, scale, and flow. From there, material and light are layered with restraint, creating spaces that are calm, cohesive, and built to endure.

Every project builds on observation and experience.

Design is not a fixed point, but an ongoing process of editing and return. Ideas are tested, reduced, and clarified until what remains feels inevitable.
